Motor glider pilots from the Petersburg team “Flight 2020” flew over Novosibirsk, carrying in the sky a huge 75-metre St. George ribbon in honour of the 75th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War. The route of 9,700 kilometres prepared by a team of pilots on motorized paragliders and paralets is aimed to cover the distance from the Leningrad region to Vladivostok.
The action has started on June 24, and on the evening of July 16, the ribbon has already appeared in the sky over Novosibirsk. In total, the trip is planned to take two months. The total mileage, 9,700 kilometres, is almost 10 times higher than the previous record for such equipment. Light vehicles allow flying at speeds up to 50-60 km/h, and athletes cover several hundred kilometres per day. On the ground, the group is accompanied by the pilots’ relatives in cars.
