The Southern Urals continues to amaze its citizens with the beauty of the open spaces. Beautiful frozen air bubbles appeared in the ice of Lake Turgoyak.
This winter, real ice mushrooms blossomed in the reservoir, which is called “the brother of Lake Baikal”. It turned out that the reason for the phenomenon is the so-called “gas hydrates”, which are stable only at low temperatures and high pressures.
This gas is released during the decay of algae, which are located at the bottom of the reservoir. Over time, the bubbles become larger and the surface of the water freezes deeper. It is interesting that if a deep hole is made in such a bubble, then methane can burn.
