Canadian Foreign Minister Called Donbass War ‘Ukraine’s War Against Russia’

The Russian Embassy in Canada stated that the country’s Foreign Minister, Melanie Joly, with her comments on what happened in Donbass, does not contribute to a de-escalation of the situation.

As stated in the Russian Embassy’s publication on Twitter, the message of the Canadian Foreign Minister about the dead Ukrainian soldiers “in the war with Russia on the eastern front” do not contribute to the normalization of the tense situation.

“The Ukrainian soldiers mentioned in Minister Joly’s statement are participants in Kiev’s military punitive operation against its citizens in the east of the country,” the Russian diplomatic mission stressed.

In April 2014, the Ukrainian authorities launched a military operation against the self-proclaimed Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics, which declared independence after the coup in Kiev in February 2014. Even after the armistice agreements, the attacks continue, and the DPR and the LPR constantly report about the shelling of residential areas by Ukrainian heavy artillery.

Moscow has repeatedly stated that Kiev does not comply with the Minsk agreements and delays negotiations on the settlement of the conflict. The Russian Foreign Ministry noted that Kiev sent half of the entire personnel of the Armed Forces of Ukraine to Donbass.

Besides, Moscow has expressed concern about the transfer of military equipment of NATO countries to the Russian borders and the increase in the number of Western instructors in the Donbass. However, Western countries continue to provide military support to Ukraine and blame on Russia for the alleged “threat”.
