The ophthalmologists of the Chelyabinsk Regional Hospital performed a unique operation and completely restored the patient’s vision. Most of the time, the operation was carried out in the dark with such small instruments that they could only be seen through a microscope, cheltv reports.
It is noted that a retinal defect, due to which the vision of one eye is almost completely lost, is very rare; it usually appears suddenly and without symptoms. In Chelyabinsk, it took the doctors three hours to fully restore the child’s eye. The operation was performed under general anesthesia.
It is specified that the doctors performed such an operation for the first time and basically did not have scientific publications, as such cases almost never occur in children. At the same time, specialists were able to photograph the damage to the retina before and after the operation in order to assess the changes and compare the results in the future.
