On Victory Day Yalta rescuers raised a red flag on the Ai-Petri peak, TASS reports. According to the Black Sea Fleet press service, about 5,000 servicemen, representatives of the Russian Guard and the Emergencies Ministry, cadets and Yunarmiya (“Youth Army”) detachments, as well as more than 200 units of military equipment, took part in the celebration of Victory Day in the hero cities of Sevastopol, Kerch, Novorossiysk, and Simferopol.
Armoured personnel carriers BTR-82A, armoured vehicles “Lynx” and “Typhoon”, anti-aircraft missile systems “Pantsir-S” and “Osa” marched in the convoy of military equipment in Simferopol. In Kerch, in addition to the parade, festivities took place, in particular, a concert of city brass bands took place on the main square with the participation of the Novomoskovsk Symphony Orchestra and local creative groups.
Rescuers of the Yalta emergency rescue squad of the regional service “Krym-Spas” raised the banner of Victory on Ai-Petri. They ascended the peak, despite the fact that there was a strong wind, and it snowed at night and in the morning.
“Raising the flag over Ai-Petri is a tradition of the Yalta mountain rescue squad, and I have been participating in this event for more than 30 years. Today, the duty shift and several other rescuers climbed different routes and set a red flag 1.5 m by 3 m. This can only be done with the use of mountaineering equipment, using the skills of mountain training,” the Head of the detachment, Yuri Pavlov, said.
