The demand for the largest sea resorts abroad on New Year’s holidays has grown in Russia amid restrictions on travel to other countries, according to the press service of the VTB bank with reference to the statistics of transactions with the bank’s clients’ cards.
It is noted that in Egypt the volume of Russian spending increased by more than 80%, in Cuba by 70%, in Turkey by 25%, in the Maldives by 6%. At the same time, the total volume of transactions of VTB clients in foreign countries during the New Year holidays decreased by 76%, amounting to 770 million rubles.
The UAE, Turkey, and the Maldives topped the rating of the most popular foreign destinations for New Year’s holidays in 2021 among all VTB clients. In the UAE, VTB cardholders spent about 250 million rubles (-20% compared to last year), in Turkey more than 80 million rubles (+23%), and in the Maldives 45 million rubles (+6%).
Among other popular places for coastal recreation were also Egypt (about 10 million rubles, +82%), Cuba (2 million rubles, +72%), and Tanzania (more than 8 million rubles, +244%). At the same time, the expenses of tourists in Seychelles decreased (1.5 million rubles, -70%).
It is specified that the spending of VTB clients in Belarus decreased by 61%, in the USA by 71%, in Spain by 83%, in Switzerland by 69%, in France by 87%, in the UK by 71%, and in Germany by 92%. In addition, in South Korea, the volume of transactions decreased by 94%, in Japan by 96%, and in China by 97%.
