In Russia, from March 30 to April 5, demand for vodka fell by 41 per cent compared to the first week of the last month, reports Izvestiya with reference to the data given by the fiscal operator Taxkom.
Analysts noted that there was a drop of 37 per cent compared to the week of March 16-22. The sales of other spirits also fell by an average of 24–58 per cent. In particular, people began to buy beer at 26 per cent less than in early spring. It is stated that the decline in demand is due to the fact that citizens stocked up on alcohol in March when there were concerns about a possible increase in product prices against the backdrop of the coronavirus pandemic.
