The XXXII Summer Olympic Games ended in Tokyo, where Don athletes won 18 medals (4 gold, 10 silver, and 4 bronze). In total, 19 athletes from the Rostov region participated in the Olympics, according to the official portal of the government of the Rostov region.
“This is an absolute record for the number of Olympic awards won by Don athletes since 1952,” said the regional deputy governor Artem Khokhlov.
It is specified that earlier the most successful for Don athletes were the 1980 Olympics (Moscow) – 14 medals and the 2008 Olympics (Beijing) – 14 medals. This year, Don athletes won 18 medals. Among the winners of this year, are Nikita Nagorny (artistic gymnastics) – gold medal in the team all-around, Vladislava Urazova (artistic gymnastics) – gold medal in the team all-around, Larisa Korobeinikova (foil fencing) – gold medal in the team championship, Vlada Chigireva (synchronized swimming) – gold medal in the group programme, and many others.
