Scientists from the National Medical Research Centre of Oncology and specialists from the Faculty of Economics of the Southern Federal University define a typical portrait of a cancer patient. The uniqueness of the study lies in the development of a healthy lifestyle management system based on obtaining a questionnaire screening, assessment of the quality of life in case of cancer.
Based on the use of sanology methods, the authors of the study are looking for new approaches for the diagnosis of non-clinical indicators of malignant neoplasms. The results of the project are expected to complement the picture of clinical factors. Researchers are testing the hypothesis that the financial and economic situation of a person, the type and characteristics of his employment, social and emotional well-being, satisfaction with working conditions and social status can influence the course of cancer.
It is specified that at the moment the pilot stage of the study is ongoing, as part of which a questionnaire survey of patients of the oncological centre is carried out. According to the researchers, this can make a significant contribution to the prevention of malignant neoplasms, including the management of a healthy lifestyle at the level of enterprises in the region and the country as a whole. The results of the project are published in the Journal of Institutional Research.
