Estonia Froze Russian Oligarchs’ Assets

The Estonian authorities have frozen the assets of Russian oligarchs Andrei Melnichenko (EuroChem company) and Vyacheslav Kantor (DBT logistics company). Now Tallinn, together with the EU, is considering the use of these tens of millions of euros for transfer to Ukraine, as reported by the Estonian broadcaster ERR.

As specified, among the frozen funds there are assets of other companies that are associated with Melnichenko and Kantor, but the Estonian authorities cannot calculate their full final value.

“In particular, the funds frozen in credit institutions, financial institutions, and bank accounts amount to a total of about 11.7 million euros. The second section is the funds on the frozen advance accounts of the Tax and Customs Department. We are talking about 8.4 million euros,” said Laura Aus, head of the Department of International Financial Sanctions and Prevention of Terrorist Financing of the Financial Intelligence Directorate of Estonia.

Earlier it became known that the EU Commission is looking for “legal” ways to confiscate Russian state and private property in favor of Ukraine.
