The overall increase in the population of Russia in 2018-2020 was observed in 21 regions, RIA News reports. Sevastopol took the leading place in the rating in percentage terms.
The three leaders also included Ingushetia, the Leningrad region, and Chechnya. In quantitative terms, the population growth leaders were the Moscow Region, Moscow, and the Krasnodar Territory.
Earlier, the Federal Statistics Service (Rosstat) published preliminary data, according to which 146 million 238 thousand 185 people lived in Russia as of January 1, 2021, which is 510 thousand less than a year earlier.
Deputy Prime Minister, Tatyana Golikova, noted that the pandemic has made “adjustments”, but, like all demographic measures, those taken in 2020 will have a delayed effect, so that an increase in the number of births and a decrease in the number of deaths is still expected in the country.
