Experts Noted Increase in Gin Sales in Moscow

Gin has become the most dynamically growing beverage in Moscow sales. In the Q3 of 2020, Muscovites bought it a quarter more often compared to the same period last year, according to specialists from the Romir research holding, Izvestia reports.

Experts recorded an active growth in purchases of gin in July-September 2020 when Muscovites began to buy the drink more than 25% more often. In the Q2 of 2020, the number of acquisitions increased by 73.3%. Experts say that Moscow has a highly developed bar culture, which explains the growing demand for gin in the city. It is noted that this drink is typical for public catering and almost never sold for home use.

Official statistics showed that the trend in Russia as a whole in the Q3 was the same as in Moscow. Alcohol sales, including the sales of imported drinks, increased by 13% compared to the same period last year (to 2.1 million decaliters). Wine sales increased by 5% (to 14.6 million decaliters), while vodka sales fell by 1% (to 18.3 million decaliters). Beer remains the leader in absolute sales (almost 186 million decaliters, which is 5% higher than the result of 2019).
