At the end of the first half of 2021, the share of foreign cars accounted for 72.8 per cent of the total sales of new passenger cars and LCVs in Russia, according to the AUTOSTAT analytical agency. In a year, this indicator fell by 1.3 percentage points (last year it was 74.1 per cent).
Experts explain the decrease in the share of foreign cars by the fact that their sales during the reporting period grew less than the entire market. Thus, cars of foreign brands for 6 months of 2021 were sold in the amount of 633,552 units, which is 34 per cent more than in January-June 2020. In general, the Russian market grew by 37 per cent to 870,749 cars.
In turn, the sales of cars of domestic brands in the first half of 2021 increased more than those in the market as a whole. Their growth was 44 per cent to 237,197 cars. Thus, their share increased from last year’s 25.9 per cent to the current 27.2 per cent.
