Film About Novocherkassk Shooting Won Prize at Venice Festival [Video]

The film “Dear Comrades” by Andrey Konchalovsky, dedicated to the execution of workers in Novocherkassk, received a special jury prize at the Venice Film Festival, RIA News reports.  

The film itself is dedicated to the execution of workers in Novocherkassk, which was hushed up for many decades. During the dispersal of a demonstration of the Novocherkassk Electric Locomotive Plant workers in June 1962, 24 people were killed (2 more died later under unknown circumstances), and 87 Novocherkassians were wounded. The court sentenced 7 “ringleaders” to death, more than 100 townspeople were behind bars.

Konchalovsky thanked the film’s producer, Alisher Usmanov, and his wife, Yulia Vysotskaya, who played the main role in the film. The film is expected to be released in Russia in November 2020.
