In 2022, border guards in Finland banned 3,375 foreign citizens from entering the country across the border with Russia. This was reported by the representative of the service Mira Alopaeus.

As specified, this is seven and a half times more than in 2021, when the Finnish border guards did not let 440 people into the country.
“The most common reason for preventing entry was the ‘threat to public health and ensuring public order and security due to restrictions in accordance with government decisions’,” Alopaeus said.
In addition, border guards issued 958 fines last year. This is almost three times more than in 2021 (321).
In total, 1,545,000 border crossings were carried out through the largest border checkpoints on the Finnish-Russian border in 2022, which is 117 per cent higher than in 2021 (713 thousand).
