The Finnish company, VR Transpoint, which coordinates freight transportation on the railways of Finland, resumes accepting trains from the Russian Federation from March 30, 2022.

“Earlier, we announced that we are stopping VR Transpoint cargo transportation in the eastern direction [to and from Russia] from March 27 due to UK sanctions against Russian Railways. According to the clarification received from the British authorities, the sanctions in question do not affect the agreements concluded by VR. Cargo transportation in the eastern direction [with Russia] will resume on March 30,” the company’s message stated.
Earlier, VR also announced the suspension of the Allegro trains connecting Helsinki and St. Petersburg from March 28 for an indefinite time. This was one of the most convenient ways from Russia to the EU after the closure of the airspace. So, the company indicated that the decision to resume cargo transportation does not affect the situation with Allegro.
