First Anti-COVID Vaccine Batch Released in Russia

The first batch of a vaccine against the new coronavirus infection COVID-19, developed by the Gamaleya Research Centre of the Ministry of Health of Russia, has been produced, RG reported. Now, the start of the vaccine release has already been announced.

It is reported that Russians can be fully provided with vaccine against coronavirus in a year. The world’s first vaccine against coronavirus infection was registered in Russia on August 11, after going through all the stages of preclinical and clinical studies. It was named “Sputnik V” because this is a so-called vector vaccine. When another harmless virus, which is called a “vector”, serves as a delivery to the body of the genetic material of a virus that causes dangerous disease, two strains of adenoviruses were used as vectors, which easily penetrate into the human body, but are not able to multiply in it. It is specified that children and the elderly will have to wait for the completion of clinical trials of the medicine.
