In July 2022, Italy became the main importer of Russian products among the EU countries. The corresponding calculations based on the data from the national statistical offices of Europe were presented by the RIA Novosti news agency.
It is specified that Italy purchased Russian goods for 3.04 billion euros, overtaking Germany with 2.9 billion euros. Thus, for the first time in at least 20 years, Italy has become the main buyer of Russian goods among the countries of the EU.
The next countries in terms of imports from Russia were the Netherlands (1.6 billion euros) and the Czech Republic (1.4 billion euros). Poland also entered the top five (1.1 billion euros).
The main European supplier of products to Russia remains Germany. In the same month, the country exported goods worth 1.02 billion euros. Italy became the second main exporter to Russia with 511.5 million euros.
In general, the EU countries delivered almost four billion euros worth of goods to Russia in July, which is ten per cent less than in June, and 48 per cent less than a year earlier. As for imports from Russia to the EU, in monthly terms it decreased by five per cent, but in annual terms it increased by 29 per cent.
