Free Wi-Fi will be returned to the ground transport of Moscow. It will be available on 990 buses, electric buses, and trams by the end of 2020. On this, the Moscow Department of Transport will spend 229.4 million rubles, Izvestia reports with reference to the government procurement documentation.
It is noted that modern equipment will be installed inside the city ground transport, thanks to which the signal will become stronger and more stable. In particular, it concerns the routes that go through the city centre to different districts of Moscow. It is also specified that if an emergency occurs, all passengers will immediately receive messages through screens in the cabins, as wireless Internet allows this to happen online.
It is stated that Moscow occupied third place in the world ranking of countries for the number of free Wi-Fi hotspots, ahead of New York, London, and Tokyo. Free Wi-Fi in the city ground transport stopped working on March 1, 2020, after residents complained about poor connection quality. Now it is back again and works much better.
