Specialists of the All-Russian Public Opinion Research Centre (VTsIOM) conducted a study, during which it turned out that a significant part of Russian youth (65 per cent among 18-24-year-olds) believes that computer games competitions can be equated with sports.

In addition, the study showed that every fifth Russian (20 per cent) plays video games (32-34 per cent among young people), 30 per cent have played them before, but now do not do this (40-48 per cent among young people, 45 per cent among 35-44-year-olds), and 50 per cent have never played at all (61 per cent among women, 56-79 per cent among older citizens).

Besides, more than half of Russians (58 per cent) know that on October 17, the Russian e-sports team ‘Team Spirit’ won the Dota 2 World Championship, and 10 per cent are even well aware of this and have followed the competition (22 per cent among 18-24-year-olds).

It also turned out that half of Russians (50 per cent) are sure that e-sports in Russia should be developed (74 per cent among 18-24-year-olds), unlike 33 per cent who do not consider this necessary (other 17 per cent of respondents found it difficult to answer).
