The two-day festival of historical reconstruction dedicated to the 650th anniversary of Kaluga has started in the city, TASS reports. Historical scenes, masterclasses, and photo zones were arranged on different city sites.
It is noted that the festival of historical reconstruction “Kaluga Through the Centuries” has opened in the central part of the regional centre. On six platforms for spectators, the fragments of different times, from the Middle Ages to May 1945, are presented. Every hour, a certain historical scene is performed on each site.
On the Right Bank, at the pontoon crossing over the River Oka, you can see a fortified camp with a pier, a smithy, an archery range, or try a real medieval fish soup. In the courtyard of the Zolotorevs estate, you can see the carriage of Catherine II or an infantry camp, as well as master the techniques of shooting a musket and listen to harpsichord music.
Reenactors also recreated the era of the Patriotic War of 1812: a camp of Russian troops, an artillery depot, sabre duels, and an infantry parade. Another location is dedicated to the victorious May 1945, where the stage was restored with the announcement of the end of the Great Patriotic War, as well as an exhibition of military equipment and weapons was organized.
It is also specified that the celebrations in honour of the 650th anniversary of Kaluga were organized throughout 2021, and the main celebrations will be held from August 14 to August 28.
