Until the end of February 2021, the annual “SharNN Challenge Cup” will start in Nizhny Novgorod, in which more than 10 pilots from all over the country will take part, NewsNN reports. The unique aeronautical event is the “long jump” hot air balloon race which this year will be held already for the fourth time.

It is noted that the competitions are traditionally held in February-March, and every year the results of the pilots are getting better. Thus, in February 2018, balloons flew more than 330 kilometres in 10 hours, in 2019 the pilots covered a distance of 400 kilometres, and in 2020 some of the pilots reached the result of 500 km.
It is specified that the competition lasts during daylight hours: it starts at dawn and finishes at sunset. This year, the start will take place not far from the Nizhny Novgorod stadium. Pilots from all over the country will come to the event. Each balloon will be equipped with an Iridium 360 tracking device so that the movement of balloons can be monitored online.
