Icebreakers Festival to Be Held in St. Petersburg Today

The icebreakers St. Petersburg and Captain Sorokin, as well as the ships Nevskaya Zastava and Captain Zarubin, will take part in the icebreaker festival on September 19 and September 20, 2020, fontanka reports. The festival will take place on Lieutenant Schmidt and English Embankments.

On September 19 and September 20 city residents will be allowed on the decks, and on Saturday evening they will see the waltz of tugs. This is the name of the passage of ships that let up streams of water and seem to dance. This part of the event will take place from 5.30 pm to 6 pm. On the evening of September 20, a farewell show based on the novel “Running on the Waves” by Alexander Green will be arranged.

According to the organizers, this year the icebreaker festival has its own mascot, a thematic life-size puppet named “Icebreaker”. It will be put on the embankment on the days of the holiday. The concept of this season is expressed in the phrase “Conquering the Elements”. The main programme will be devoted to this topic, and visitors will learn more about the territory of permafrost, the far north, and their conquerors.
