In 2021, the 76th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War was celebrated. Parades and fireworks were held in many cities of Russia. The Immortal Regiment campaign took place online for the second year in a row due to the pandemic restrictions. Festive events were organized in other states as well, including the USA, TASS reports.
Participants of the action in the United States observed a minute of silence in memory of those who died in the Great Patriotic War. The Charge d’Affaires of Russia in the United States, Sergey Koshelev, noted that recently there have been attempts to “rewrite history, to tarnish the memory of a generation of liberators”.
“Our sacred duty is to preserve the truth about the Victory for descendants. The attempts to mock the heroic heritage of our ancestors are unacceptable and will certainly meet the most decisive rebuff,” Koshelev said.
The President of the “Russian Youth of America” public organization, Igor Kochan, who acted as the coordinator of the action, noted that even though this year the participants of the Immortal Regiment were unable to go to the streets with portraits of their ancestors, the purpose of the action is to remember the heroes of a family, also when staying at home.
Representatives of the embassies of Belarus, Uzbekistan, Armenia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and Turkmenistan sent messages to the participants of the Immortal Regiment in the United States. Veterans, members of public organizations, Russians from New York, Washington, Seattle, Boston, Detroit, Kansas City, San Diego, Honolulu, Phoenix, and other American cities took part in the action.
Also, an online concert was held in the USA on the occasion of the 76th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War. It was attended by Russians living in different states of the country. About 100 participants of the Victory Day march in New York laid flowers at the memorial to the participants of the Second World War.
