The Chelyabinsk regional experts of the State Committee for Civil Registry Office reported that in January 2021, almost 5,000 babies were born (2,537 boys and 2,362 girls) in the region. Moreover, 65 pairs of them were twins, chelTV reports.
It is stated that over the past two months, in the region were born babies who later were given such names as King, Queen, Princess, and Prince. Other interesting names for babies included Magdalene and Noah. As for the more common names, the most popular in January-February 2021, in the Chelyabinsk region were Maria and Sofia among girls, as well as Artem and Mikhail among boys.
It is noted that the names that are popular now and are mentioned above, are the same that were in the top list at the end of 2020. However, for the rare names, the situation has changed. Last year, citizens were more actively choosing not “titular” names as now, but the names from Old Testament or Old Slavonic names, such as Abraham, Simeon, Radoslava, or Rusolina.
