Kremlin Didn’t Support Advice to Europeans to Change Household Appliances

The Press Secretary of the President of Russia, Dmitry Peskov, assessed the publication of a Bloomberg columnist advising Europeans to change old household appliances in order to save energy and reduce dependence on supplies from Russia. The Kremlin Spokesman said that now large consumption in Europe is beneficial not to Russia, but to the US.

The old household appliances were called “Putin’s friends” in a publication by Bloomberg on July 4. Columnist Javier Blas claimed that most of the electricity in the region is obtained by burning gas, which would be useful in winter for heating. So, if the electricity consumption is reduced, gas can be saved and thereby it would be easier to cope with the deficit.

“The old equipment is not a ‘friend of Putin’, but a friend of the Americans, because now more American liquefied gas, expensive gas, is supplied to Europe instead of Russian pipe gas. Therefore, the old equipment is, firstly, a friend of the Americans, and secondly, a friend of the European leadership, which has decided to reduce the consumption of reliable, cheap and predictable at the price Russian pipe gas,” Peskov commented.
