The Kremlin does not agree with the statement of the head of European diplomacy Josep Borrel, who called Russia and China “authoritarian states,” and believes that these countries have their own political system.

A joint statement between China and Russia, which has not been very well perceived by the West because everybody was looking to Ukraine, may be the foundation stone of a big alliance of two authoritarian regimes, as the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs, Josep Borrell, said.
“A joint statement between China and Russia, which has not been very well perceived because everybody was looking to Ukraine, may be the foundation stone of a big alliance of two authoritarian regimes. This is, for sure, is going to be the big fight of the century, the fight between democracies and authoritarian regimes,” he said.
However, the press secretary of the Russian President, Dmitry Peskov, disagreed with the statement about the possible creation of a “strong alliance of two authoritarian regimes” noting that Russia simply does not have one.
“We absolutely disagree, firstly, with the assessment that we are talking about authoritarian regimes,” Peskov said. “We do not think that the EU has the right to give such assessments to the Russian Federation or the People’s Republic of China.”
According to him, Russia and China are “large sovereign countries with their own political system and their own system of the state structure.”
“We respect the structure of other states and do not interfere in internal affairs and consider ourselves entitled to expect the same respect for us. Such statements do not fit into such logic,” Peskov concluded.
