“Regarding the integration and mutual use of the Russian Mir system and the Iranian Shetab system, substantive negotiations are underway at the level of central banks; they communicated, I guess, in July, and agreed on a kind of roadmap that will lead us to this result. I’m sure it will happen soon enough,” the Minister said during talks with Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian.

In turn, the Iranian Foreign Minister noted that good agreements have been reached on the technical aspects of the integration of the two payment systems.

“We are optimistic about this and hope that in the near future the latest technical steps will be taken and the peoples of our states and entrepreneurs will be able to use this opportunity,” he said.

On August 16, Korban Eskandari, Director General of the Banking and Insurance Department of the Iranian Ministry of Economy, said that “at the first stage, Iran can use Mir for financial transactions with Russia, and then start using this system for interaction with other countries.”
