The Tourism Committee of St. Petersburg, together with the agency SPN Communications, introduced a new meta-brand of the city.
The new logo shows a blue circle with the name of the city in the centre. The logo is made in three versions: the name of the city is written in Russian, English and Chinese. SPN Communications won a tender for 7 million rubles.
Minister of Culture Vladimir Medinsky shared his thoughts about the new logo.
“Does St. Petersburg need a logo? The very word “Petersburg” is already a trademark,” said the official on a cultural forum that began on November 14 in St. Petersburg.
The SPN Communications general director, Andrei Barannikov, explained that the logo depicts the “turquoise northern sun”, symbolizing “faith in the genius of man, breakthrough and insight”.

According to the authors of the project, the font of the meta-brand should be associated with drawbridges, and the slogan “Create the Great” should position St. Petersburg as “a city of personalities where they come to reveal their potential”.
