The capital’s Sheremetyevo Airport in 2019 showed the fastest growth among all European airports.
Over the past year, passenger traffic in Sheremetyevo increased by 8.9 per cent, up to 49.9 million people. For comparison, Munich Airport increased passenger traffic in the region of four to five per cent, London Gatwick – by half a per cent, Istanbul Airport showed zero dynamics.
In terms of the absolute number of passengers served, Sheremetyevo takes eighth place in Europe. London Heathrow Airport is leading in the ranking, Charles de Gaulle Airport in Paris is in second place, the Dutch Schiphol Airport closes the top three. The rest of the places before Russia were taken by the airports of Frankfurt, Istanbul, Madrid and Barcelona.
