Doctors at the perinatal centre in Shchyolkovo saved a newborn baby by removing a tumour weighing more than a kilogram. This was reported by Moscow city news agency, with reference to the press service of the Ministry of Health.

The Ministry added, that the tumour weight reached 1180 grams, which is almost half the weight of the baby – 3390 grams. According to the chief physician of the Shchyolkovo Perinatal Centre, Andrey Pastarnak, a teratoma detected by doctors sometimes causes heart failure, which leads to fetal dropsy and death before birth.
The neonatologist of the Ministry of Health, Lyudmila Malyutina, believes that with the help of proper pregnancy and childbirth, as well as the professionalism of doctors, they stabilized vital functions in the first 12 hours of a newborn’s life.
According to the press service, the baby is already recovering, and they are being prepared for discharge with their mother.
