Moscow Students Created Neural Network to Identify Dangerous Birthmarks

Students of the Moscow Medical University and Bauman Technical University developed a neural network and bot in Telegram, which allows analyzing birthmark images for signs of melanoma. 

The news was announced by the director of the Center for Personalized Oncology, Marina Sekacheva.

“The neural network is able to automatically analyze birthmark images and determine whether the patient has signs of melanoma or not. The data is analyzed in comparison with the existing database of malignant and benign formations, consisting of more than two thousand images,” said Sekacheva.

According to her, the new format is most convenient for working with patients remotely. The system will display the risk of developing melanoma in percentage terms, the Moscow News Agency reports. Student developments can be introduced into Russian clinical practice in a year.
