Most Russian Drivers Familiar With People’s Car-Sharing

In Russia, the service of providing cars by subscription is gaining more and more popularity. Over the two years of the pandemic, the number of operators has grown significantly but not all drivers are still familiar with this service, which follows from the results of a survey conducted by the Romir research holding.

Six out of ten drivers in Moscow (60 per cent) are familiar with the new initiative of “people’s car-sharing” which is preparing for the launch of the Moscow Department of Transport. This service will allow individuals to rent and lease personal cars. However, 40 per cent of those surveyed have not yet heard about this.

The study showed that more than half of car owners (58 per cent) in Russia are ready to rent someone’s personal car but the overwhelming majority of respondents (89 per cent) are not ready to give their car in such a service. Talking about the attitude towards the service, 34 per cent of the respondents are positive about it and 33 per cent feel negative. The same number of people (33 per cent) expressed a neutral attitude.

In addition, the results of the study showed that 82 per cent of respondents had never heard of the “auto-by-subscription” service. As expected, in Moscow the share of such answers is lower (77 per cent) than in the regions (83 per cent), while in St. Petersburg, on the contrary, it is the highest one (86 per cent). It is interesting that in the regions this service turned out to be more popular (39 per cent) than in Moscow and St. Petersburg (29 per cent each).
