MTS to Invest 2 Billion Rubles in Rostov Region Digitalization

Until the end of 2020, the MTS telecom operator plans to invest 2 billion rubles in the digital infrastructure of the Rostov region, 1rnd reports.

A cooperation agreement between the Governor of the Rostov region, Vasily Golubev, and the President of MTS, Vyacheslav Nikolaev, was signed at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum. According to the agreement, the priority is to develop the tourism industry using geoanalytics (Big Data) and improve the safety of the urban environment through the development of intelligent video surveillance systems.

In addition, it is specified that the Internet of Things (IoT) technology will be developed to control the efficiency of using the resources of the regional economy. Besides, the Don government and MTS plan to cooperate in the implementation of social and cultural projects based on telecommunication technologies to preserve the cultural and historical heritage of the region.

“MTS launched the largest NB-IoT network in the Rostov region for smart devices and the introduction of industrial IoT and Smart City, provided one hundred per cent coverage of the M4 Don federal highway and created a new LTE coverage along the railway,” the MTS President said.
