About 70 per cent of Moscow residents will spend the New Year holidays in Moscow or the Moscow region, VM.ru reports with reference to the Associate Professor of the Department of Hospitality, Tourism, and Sports of the Plekhanov Russian University of Economics Roman Gareev.
He noted that most Russian tourists are going to spend vacations in the region where they live. Thus, about 50–70 per cent of Muscovites plan to stay in the city for the winter holidays. It is specified that the cities of the Central Federal District will show the greatest travel activity, while the least is expected in the Far East, the North Caucasus, and the Volga regions.
It is also stated that about 75 per cent of searches for plane tickets are for flights within the Russian Federation, and 25 per cent abroad. The top 10 Russian destinations included Sochi, Kaliningrad, St. Petersburg, Simferopol, Mineralnye Vody, Novosibirsk, Krasnodar, Yekaterinburg, Kazan, and Krasnoyarsk.
