New Russian Robot Started to Protect Vostochny Cosmodrome [Video]

The “Marker” robotic platform developed by the Russian company “ANDROID Technology” and the Foundation for Advanced Research, has been put to the protection of the Vostochny cosmodrome. This was announced on October 7 by the head of Roscosmos, Dmitry Rogozin, in his Telegram channel.

The head clarified that technologies such as autonomous patrolling of dedicated routes for the protection of ground-based space infrastructure facilities, identification of violators of the protected perimeter, their identification and interception, as well as countering terrorist acts and the fight against unmanned aerial vehicles are currently being tested. Rogozin specified that “Marker” works both in radio-controlled and offline modes.

“The formed scientific and technical reserve and technologies, including those with elements of artificial intelligence, will be used in the creation of equipment for the exploration and development of the Moon and planets of the Solar System. Designers already work out the possibility of autonomous movement of both individual platforms and platforms in a group,” Rogozin said.

As specified, the main task of the “Marker” project is to create a fully autonomous robotic complex capable of independently choosing a route, detecting targets and using weapons depending on the combat tasks assigned to it. At the end of 2020, an experimental robotic platform “Marker” was tested in a completely autonomous mode on the territory of the Chelyabinsk region.

After the robot receives the coordinates of the point of arrival as a task, it independently lays out a route and arrives at the specified point moving for an hour and a half through unfamiliar terrain relying only on data obtained through the vision system.
