The project “New Year’s Capital of Russia” has been implemented by the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation since 2012. Its main goal is the development of event tourism in the country and an increase in the tourist flow to different cities and regions of Russia.

When choosing a winner, the expert jury takes into account the availability of venues for events, a well-developed cultural environment, experience in holding large-scale events, readiness to receive numerous tourists, and many other important factors.

This year, Nizhny Novgorod won the award. It is specified that the symbol of a victory, a snowflake, was first handmade by local craftsmen using the filigree technique. According to Nikitin, Nizhny Novgorod became the 10th-anniversary city to receive this title.
