Norway needs to conduct a more active dialogue with Russia, the candidate for Prime Minister of Norway, Jonas Gahr Støre, said, RIA Novosti reports with reference to VG. According to the politician, the sharp reduction in contacts between the countries deserves criticism.
“This is our big neighbour, and Norway has a long tradition of joint activities with it […] Norway must be reliable, stable and consistent in its meetings with Russia,” Støre said.
Støre argues that even if problems arise, one should not abandon negotiations, because, in his opinion, the countries need a dialogue, at least in the field of fishing and the development of the Arctic.
“We need more proactive policies to solve problems and create opportunities for people on both sides of the border,” the politician added.
