The awarding of the title of “New Year’s Capital of Russia” to Novosibirsk will coincide with the holding of the World Junior Ice Hockey Championship in 2023, VN.ru reports.
On Friday, January 22, the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation supported the initiative of Governor, Andrey Travnikov, to award Novosibirsk the title of “New Year’s Capital of Russia” in 2022-2023. At this time, for the ice hockey championship, a new ice arena, the Sportivnaya metro station, the fourth bridge across the Ob river, a system of road junctions, a new terminal at Tolmachevo airport and much more will be constructed.
The regional government noted that the assignment of this title to Novosibirsk on the eve of the World Junior Ice Hockey Championship will attract more attention to the region at the federal level. Therefore, the governor instructed the Ministry of Culture of the Novosibirsk region, together with the mayor’s office, to develop a detailed plan of actions for the preparation of a large-scale cultural event.
