Orthodox Hockey Players Met on Novosibirsk Ice

The final ice hockey games of the Great Martyr George the Victorious are held at the Flamingo Stadium in Novosibirsk. The Orthodox tournament gathered eleven teams on the ice in the competition organized by the Novosibirsk Diocese of the Russian Orthodox Church and the Winter League of Novosibirsk.

According to the head of the sports department of the Novosibirsk diocese, master of sports of Russia, priest Boris Levitan, the organization and holding of such competitions dedicated to great saints is an important component of the Orthodox mission in sports. According to the press service of the diocese, amateur hockey teams from the city and the region take part in the tournament. The main point of such competitions is to show athletes and fans the closeness and accessibility of the church to people.
