More than 50 thousand servicemen will be involved in the strategic command and staff exercises “Vostok-2022”, which will be held on September 1-7, 2022, at the training grounds of the Eastern Military District of the Russian Federation, in the waters of the Sea of Okhotsk and the Sea of Japan.
“In total, more than 50 thousand military personnel, more than 5 thousand units of weapons and military equipment, including 140 aircraft, 60 warships, boats, and support vessels will be involved in the ‘Vostok-2022’ SCSE [strategic command and staff exercises],” the Russian Defense Ministry reported.
The exercises will be led by the Chief of the Russian General Staff, Valery Gerasimov. During the maneuvers, the troops will work out defensive and offensive actions at seven air defense ranges, as well as in the waters and coastal zones of the Sea of Okhotsk and the Sea of Japan.
“The plan of the Vostok-2022 SCSE provides for various options for the actions of interspecific and coalition groups of troops in the interests of ensuring the military security of the Russian Federation and its allies in the area of responsibility of the Eastern Military District,” the Russian Defense Ministry informed.
It is stated that the exercises are aimed at improving the skills of commanders and staffs, increasing compatibility and the level of interaction when solving joint tasks by coalition groups of troops to preserve peace, protect interests and ensure military security in the Eastern region.
“The actions of the troops involved in the SCSE will be carried out in accordance with the provisions of the Agreement on Confidence Building in the Military Field in the Border Area of 1996 between the Russian Federation, the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Kyrgyz Republic, the Republic of Tajikistan, and the People’s Republic of China,” the Russian Defense Ministry specified.
As part of the coalition groups of troops, joint actions will be practiced by operational groups of management bodies, military contingents and observers from the countries of the Collective Security Treaty Organization, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, and other partner states, including Azerbaijan, Algeria, Armenia, Belarus, India, Kazakhstan, the Kyrgyz Republic, China, Lao People’s Democratic Republic, Mongolia, Nicaragua, Syria, and Tajikistan.
Yesterday, the Ministry has already reported on the preparations for the strategic exercises at Sergeyevsky training ground of the Eastern Military District, where personnel of logistics units deployed a field camp for military contingents of foreign states taking part in the exercise. A state-of-the-art autonomous field camp was erected to provide comfortable accommodation for the troops, as well as around 100 modern tents for the personnel. The field camp consists of modern frame tents, each with accommodation for 16 people. Field parks are equipped with everything necessary to maintain and repair combat vehicles.
