President of the Russian Federation, Vladimir Putin, signed a decree on the establishment of the Day of Family, Love and Fidelity on July 8. It has come into force on the day of the decree’s signing.
“In order to preserve traditional family values and spiritual and moral education of children and youth, I decree: to establish the Day of Family, Love and Fidelity and celebrate it on July 8,” the decree of the head of state says.
As reminded, every year on July 8, Russia celebrates the All-Russian Day of Family, Love and Fidelity. It is symbolic that it was celebrated for the first time in 2008, which was declared the family year. This holiday in Russia was established on the initiative of deputies of the State Duma, which was supported by all traditional religious organizations in Russia.
The idea of the holiday arose among residents of the city of Murom (Vladimir region), where the relics of the holy spouses Peter and Fevronia, patrons of Christian marriage, rest. Initially, it was their memory that was honored on July 8.
The life of Peter and Fevronia embodies features that the traditional religions of Russia have always associated with the ideal of matrimony, namely: piety, mutual love and fidelity, performing works of mercy and taking care of the various needs of their fellow citizens.
In addition, the family is an important social unit that is protected by the law of Russia that states:
- motherhood and childhood, the family, are protected by the state;
- taking care of children and their upbringing is an equal right and duty of both parents;
- able-bodied children who have reached the age of 18 should take care of disabled parents.
Besides, there is an opinion that the marriage concluded on July 8 will be long and happy. And, of course, this date is a wonderful occasion to gather with your family and show special care for your loved ones.
