Red Army Soldiers’ Remains Buried on Mamayev Kurgan

The remains of 37 Soviet soldiers who died in the Battle of Stalingrad in 1942-1943 were solemnly buried on April 24, 2021, at the memorial cemetery located on the western slope of the Mamayev Kurgan in Volgograd, TASS reports.

“Today it is very important to preserve the memory of the historical heroism of our compatriots, but the fate of many who died here is still unknown, so our duty to the Motherland is to restore the names and bury the remains with dignity,” the Deputy Minister of Culture of the Russian Federation, Vladimir Osintsev, said.

According to the chairman of the regional branch of the “Search Movement of Russia” organization in the Volgograd region, the Head of the expedition Andrey Oreshkin, 37 Red Army soldiers were buried in the memorial cemetery of the Kurgan, whose remains were found in the autumn of last year by the search detachment on the territory of the hero-city in Kirovsky and Soviet districts.
