Reindeer Herders’ World Congress to Be Held in Khanty-Mansiysk

From March 4 to 8, the VII World Congress of Reindeer Herders will be held in Khanty-Mansiysk, which will gather delegates from 29 reindeer herding regions of the world.

The Congress unites representatives of the peoples of the Arctic countries. It is held every four years and involves reindeer herders, as well as scientists and specialists in reindeer husbandry and indigenous people.

As reported, Ugra was chosen as the venue for the first time due to the high assessment of the region in matters of ensuring legitimate interests, integrated socio-economic and cultural development of the indigenous peoples of the North.

The participants of the event will elect a new council of the Association of World Reindeer Herders (AWRH). The congress will also host the professional skills competition among reindeer herders for the Governor’s Cup of Ugra, the digital salon of social projects “Circumpolar Networks in the Development of the Traditional Way of Life of Indigenous Peoples”, as well as creative ethno-masters and the gastronomic ethno-festival “With the Taste of the North”.
