Roscosmos has published the emblem of the Multifunctional Laboratory Module (MLM) “Science” which is to leave for the ISS on July 21, 2021. The emblem has a look typical of the style of Russian manned missions, TASS reports.
The Science module is intended for the implementation of the Russian programme of scientific and applied research and experiments. After the commissioning of MLM, the Russian segment will receive additional volumes for the arrangement of workplaces and storage of goods, the placement of equipment for the regeneration of water and oxygen.
It is specified that on the emblem the Science module is located against the background of the Earth in a fully working configuration: the ERA manipulator arm is unfolded, the porthole is open, and the airlock is installed. “Science” is surrounded by the Russian tricolour, and the name of the module, the year of its launch, the launch site (Baikonur cosmodrome) and the launch vehicle that will launch it into near-earth orbit (“Proton-M”) are indicated along the emblem circumference.
The scientific purpose of the module is additionally reminded by the ellipses of three crossed orbits (stylistic interpretation of the orbitals of the electrons of an atom). At the tops of the orbits are the logos of Roskosmos and the manufacturers. In the lower part, there are stars that symbolize the composition of the Russian segment of the ISS.
