The Rostov Statistics Service (Rostovstat) experts conducted a study concerning the men of the region in honour of the Defender of the Fatherland Day which was traditionally celebrated in Russia on February 23. According to the analysis of the specialists, men and women in the Rostov region are approximately equally divided (46.5 per cent of residents are men), 1rnd reports.
In absolute numbers, there are 1.95 million men, the vast majority of them (1.3 million), are urban residents. At the same time, in the age group 35-39 years, there is almost complete gender equality: there are 1,002 women per 1,000 men. The average age of a resident of the Rostov region is 38-39 years, while for the whole country this figure is 37.5. The average life expectancy of Rostov men is slightly more than 69 years.
It is noted that the most “male” professions in the Rostov region are mining, construction, water supply, waste collection and disposal, energy, transport, and communications. In addition, there are 2.3 times fewer men in politics than women, in contrast to the widespread stereotype that they hold the overwhelming majority in this area.
It is also reported that there are 1.7 times more women of 18-24 years old who decided to legalize relationships in 2019 than men of the same age. But at the same time, in the Rostov region, more families are still created than broke up, and 80 per cent of children are born in officially registered families.
