On the night of December 31 to January 1, MegaFon subscribers in the Rostov region pumped 55 TB of Internet traffic, which is comparable to 7 months of continuous broadcasts in 4K Ultra HD format.
While Instagram became the most popular social network of the festive night in Russia, it shifted to second place among Rostov residents. Subscribers were even less active in Odnoklassniki and VKontakte. The lead took the TikTok platform.
The growth of traffic in social networks on New Year’s Eve showed a new trend – people began to address their congratulations to a mass audience, while there were noticeably fewer personal wishes for loved ones. Thus, the volume of voice calls this year decreased by 21 per cent compared to the festive night of the previous year.
In addition, Rostov residents have chosen online cinemas and services for watching online videos as an alternative to traditional television. YouTube became the most popular among them on the night of December 31 to January 1 (MegaFon subscribers watched 74 TB of video content there). Also, residents of the Rostov region enjoyed New Year’s movies and programmes through such services as “Kinopoisk”, MegaFon.TV and ivi.
