Russia and ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations) have adopted a Comprehensive Action Plan for the implementation of the strategic partnership for 2021-2025, as evidenced by a document published on the Kremlin‘s official website. The plan defines the priorities of both sides and the measures they should take to fully realize the potential of the Russian-ASEAN partnership in all areas of mutual interest.
According to the document, the parties intend to strengthen coordination and cooperation in the fight against terrorism and transnational crime, as well as develop international cooperation in the fight against terrorism in accordance with the UN Charter, thematic resolutions of the UN Security Council and the UN Global Counter-Terrorism Strategy.
Besides, it is planned to encourage cooperation through interfaith and intercultural dialogue, as well as promote respect, tolerance and moderation, strengthen social cohesion of the peoples of Russia and ASEAN by introducing a culture of peace.
Also, the Russian Federation and ASEAN are going to continue cooperation in the fight against the cultivation, production, manufacture and trafficking of illicit drugs to stop drug-related crimes.
Moreover, the parties agreed to strengthen cooperation in the field of security, politics, economy, and in the socio-cultural sphere.
In addition, in accordance with the international obligations of Russia and ASEAN, the parties plan to explore opportunities for further cooperation in nuclear energy in the field of civil nuclear energy and related industries and strengthen cooperation to ensure energy security by expanding joint research, development, production and use of all energy sources, including renewable and alternative, promotion of low-carbon and energy-efficient sustainable energy technologies.
Finally, Russia and ASEAN intend to intensify cooperation in the areas of maritime security, peacekeeping operations and cybersecurity, humanitarian assistance and emergency response, as well as humanitarian demining.
