Moscow and Doha have agreed to hold a meeting of the Russian-Qatari Commission on Trade, Economic, and Technical Cooperation in a face-to-face format in Doha, TASS reports with reference to the Russian Foreign Minister, Sergey Lavrov, who spoke at a press conference following talks with the Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Qatar Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani.
“Our specific agenda includes ways to expand practical cooperation, increase the volume and diversify trade turnover. In this regard, we stressed the importance of the activities of the joint Russian-Qatari commission on trade, economic, and technical cooperation. We agreed to prepare its meeting during the remaining months of this year, it should be held in Doha,” Lavrov said.
The parties also noted the good cooperation between the Qatar Investment Authority and the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF). It is specified that progressive development has been recorded on bilateral issues, which meets the long-term interests of both countries. It was also stated that the process is developing in line with the agreements reached between the President of the Russian Federation, Vladimir Putin, and the Emir of Qatar Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani.
“We also welcomed the mutual intention to intensify inter-parliamentary ties, tourist exchanges, contacts in the scientific and educational sphere,” Lavrov specified.
In addition, the countries showed mutual interest in increasing cooperation on issues of sports support and ensuring the security of the organization of international sports competitions. In particular, a plan for coordinating actions in preparation for the World Cup 2022 in Qatar was discussed.
