Russia’s Parliamentary Commission to Investigate the work of Biological Laboratories in Ukraine received data from the country’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs that confirm the non-compliance of the US and Ukraine with The Biological Weapons Convention (BTWC) that mandates the elimination of existing biological weapons and prohibits developing, stockpiling or using biological and toxin weapons.
The confirmation of the Convention violation was announced by the co-chairman of the commission, Vice-Speaker of the Federation Council Konstantin Kosachev.
“We have received very important additional information confirming our concerns regarding the apparent non-compliance of the United States, as well as Ukraine, with its obligations under the Convention on the prohibition of biological weapons,” Kosachev reported.
According to him, an investigation into the violation of the convention is planned to be initiated at the UN site.
“We are talking about our activities at the UN site, where, as we understand, an international investigation will be initiated in full compliance with Articles 5 and 6 of the UN Convention, and at the Vienna Negotiations on Military Security and Arms Control,” the politician explained.
At the same time, Deputy Speaker of Russian State Duma, Irina Yarovaya, said that Washington and Kiev provided false information to the secretariat of the BTWC, Sputnik reports.
“Thanks to the special operation [in Ukraine], we have the opportunity to assess their reliability […] The facts have been established that both the US and Ukraine provided incomplete or inaccurate information. Thus, there is a complete concealment in the reports of information on biological programmes with the support of the US Department of Defense in Ukraine. All Ukrainian reports inform of a lack of national biosecurity research and development programmes,” Yarovaya stressed.
Addressing the issue, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov stated that Moscow is concerned with the American bioweapons’ activity not only in Ukraine, but across the globe.
